Apologetics
Welcome to the Apologetics section of the website.
Apologetics is a funny name for the skill of defending the Faith. Specifically, the Christian faith. The word apologetics doesn't mean to apologize but to give a defense of what one believes to be true. (Josh McDowell, The Evidence that Demands a Verdict, Introduction page 39) The objective of apologetics "strives at laying the evidence for the Christian gospel before men in an intelligent fashion so that they can make a meaningful commitment under the convicting power of the Holy Spirit." (Clark Pinnock, Set Forth Your Case, page 3)
We live in a dark and deceived world where in many ways our beliefs are questioned and assumed to be untrue. The great thing about the Bible is that it is defendable, credible, logical and provable in many ways. The Apologetics section will focus on evidence that we have to prove and defend the faith. This section will also look at false religions and cults. It has been said that the best way to be familiar with what is true and real is by studying what is false and counterfeit. So, it is in our interests as Christians to be as familiar with other belief systems so that we are able to distinguish the true from the false. Plus, to help save the Lost we need to be able to steer them away from false beliefs.
As Christians we should not check our brains at the door of our places of worship. Remember we are to "love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind," Luke 10:27
Our faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior is founded on the eyewitness accounts of the Lord's glory.
For we did not follow cunningly devised fables when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of His majesty. 2 Peter 1:16
After that He was seen by over five hundred brethren at once, of whom the greater part remain to the present, but some have fallen asleep. After that He was seen by James, then by all the apostles. 1 Corinthians 15:6-7
And we are witnesses of all things which He did both in the land of the Jews and in Jerusalem, whom they killed by hanging on a tree. Him God raised up on the third day, and showed Him openly, not to all the people, but to witnesses chosen before by God, even to us who ate and drank with Him after He arose from the dead. And He commanded us to preach to the people, and to testify that it is He who was ordained by God to be Judge of the living and the dead. - Acts 10:39-42
As Christians we are instructed by the Bible to become knowledgeable in our Beliefs and bold in our Witness.
For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. 2 Timothy 1:7
But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear; 1 Peter 3:15
Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching. 2 Timothy 4:2
This section will focus on resources that we can use to broaden our knowledge base and to acquire wisdom in defending the faith.
"Behold, I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves. Therefore be wise as serpents and harmless as doves. - Mat 10:16
Remember when defending your faith in Jesus that the dissenting person has the burden of proof since we know that God's Word is faithful and true. Also, remember that you have the presence of the Holy Spirit guiding you, and leading you in Truth
"And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." - John 8:32
Here are some excellent books to use in Defending the faith:
The New Evidence that Demands a Verdict by Josh McDowell
